Mindanao Rotarians to hold confab at Pryce Plaza

The Rotary Club is set to its District Convention this year.
Hence, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban, in a media forum, invited all Rotarians from the Mindanao district to the convention which will be held at Pryce Plaza Cagayan de Oro, another hotel and Capitol University on April 30 to May 2.

“For almost a year, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban has been preparing for this big event because we want this conference to be meaningful,” said District Convention Chair Ella Yu.

She also indicated how fortunate they were to be given the chance to host the prestigious affair.

District Secretary Bebotte Chiu mentioned some of the accomplishments and outreach programs that the organization has done for the previous year.
Some of which are their daycare center, the senior citizen building located at barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City and water project in Barangay San Simon.
She stressed that their concentration is on “service above self.”

Meanwhile, District Governor Bing Juarez acknowledged the focus of the Rotary Club for 2010.
“For this year, the emphasis would be on health and hunger, literacy, water and the environment,” she stated.

Regarding the presentations for the convention, she said that the guest speakers for the activity would be past district governors, district coordinators and most especially the coordinator from the South Pacific Region.

“The district conference is sort of a summing up of what we have done. At the same time, we also think of ways to serve the community better, how the clubs would be more effective in meeting the needs of the individual Rotarian and we evaluate strong and weak points as well,” she clarified.

She added, “I‘m proud to say that the Rotary Club has given back to the community in terms of several projects.”

Mindanao’s pride Allona will entertain the Cagayan de Oro crowd as she performs live at Pryce Plaza Cagayan de Oro on May 9, 2010.

This will be part of Pryce Plaza’s commitment to bring in the city the country’s top voices as far as the Philippine entertainment.

Pryce Plaza Cagayan de Oro manager Ped Quiamjot said Allona is one of the country’s best on-stage performers and her original voice will ultimately captivate one’s loving heart. Among her famous songs include “Girl of the World”, “Joey”, “Pleased to Meet You”, “Nothing without you”, “Price, Over You”, “If my Words Had Wings”, “Kung Kailan”, “What About Me and One Love.”

Allona came to Manila where, after doing her rounds of singing at weddings and small club gigs, she eventually landed a spot on "Oh No, It's Johnny." As luck would have it, Ms. Pilita Corrales was also a guest on the show that night.

Allona was soon whisked into the world of recording, managed by no less than Ms. Corrales herself, and was later introduced to the collective Pinoy psyche by the well-received single called "Someone's Always Saying Goodbye." Allona hails from the province of Misamis Occidental.
